In the organizer's words:

The Kunsthalle Düsseldorf is dedicating the last exhibition before the renovation to a joint look into the future: the future of the Kunsthalle, but also the future of cities, urban spaces, societies and our shared coexistence.

The exhibition Where to? Kunsthalle / City / Society of the Future takes the threshold at which the institution finds itself as its starting point and opens it up to a collective examination of questions of urban and institutional coexistence. The Kunsthalle becomes a space for thought and experience, a laboratory of possibilities. It invites visitors to engage with questions of architecture, urban planning, cultural participation and the design of public and communal spaces in a city - especially in times of profound ecological, social and economic upheaval.

Artists, architects, designers, urban planners and scientists who deal with topics such as green cities, urban mobility, sustainable construction, living democracy, cultural participation and the role and responsibility of culture in this complex structure share their innovative ideas, projects and visions with visitors. The exhibition is not intended as a closed presentation, but as an open, evolving project space. It brings together ideas, experiments and proposals and invites visitors to think and develop together.

Where to? asks for perspectives for the city of the future and focuses on the central challenges of social coexistence in our time. The focus is not only on the problems, but above all on creative proposals for solutions and forward-looking impulses from a wide range of stakeholders.

We ask ourselves the question:
How do we want to live in the future?
But above all: How can we live in the future?

The aim of Where to? is to create space for encounters and exchange in order to find answers to these questions together. Visitors are invited to get actively involved: with questions, thoughts, criticism and imagination for shaping our common future. Numerous projects and formats encourage visitors to think, shape and experience.
