Wolves
In the organizer's words:
Exclusive re-screening presented as part of the Audiophil music film series. Screening in Swiss German and English with German subtitles.
Luana is in her early twenties and wants to escape her dreary everyday life, in which she still lives with her mother and her terminally ill father. She also feels stuck in her job as a teacher at the local kindergarten. So her cousin Domi’s suggestion comes at just the right time: why not just hang out in the rehearsal space of his new black metal band, WLVS? There, Luana meets the charismatic frontman Wiktor, and she’s soon captivated—by the young singer, by the aggressive music that clears her head, and by the wild nights in run-down underground clubs. When the band goes on tour in the surrounding area, Luana jumps right in, selling merchandise at the concerts and managing WLVS’s social media presence. A relationship develops between her and Wiktor, and back in Switzerland, she moves in with him. But his behavior remains unpredictable—sometimes affectionate, sometimes distant. When a concert video posted online reveals a controversial tattoo on Wiktor’s chest, the band threatens to fall apart. The power struggle between Domi and Wiktor comes to a head, fueled by growing online attention and the first accusations. Luana finds herself drawn deeper and deeper into a violent subculture where extreme views are part of everyday life, and Wiktor is a part of that world. As the blazing fires of the solstice celebration light up the night, Luana must decide whom to trust before the ominous pull drags her into the abyss for good…
The feature film debut WOLVES, which has already won multiple festival awards, is directed by Swiss filmmaker Jonas Ulrich as an intense character study whose atmospheric intensity is owed not only to the killer grooves of the original songs on the soundtrack, but above all to its two lead actors. Newcomer Selma Kopp, as Luana, holds her own brilliantly against an equally compelling Bartosz Bielenia (CORPUS CHRISTI), whose morally dubious singer Wiktor balances here on a terrifyingly fine line between rage and innocence. For anyone who loves the sound cranked all the way up, WOLVES turns the volume up to eleven!
