Two-day workshop with artist and biologist Klaus Fritze
For adults (ages 16 and up)
We’ll meet in Malkastenpark on a summer day to search together for living creatures that usually hide from our view: The so-called “cryptogams”—residents of old statues, cracks in walls, and tree bark: “plants that marry in secret,” as the term translates from Greek—mosses, lichens, fungi, ferns, and algae all belong to this group.
What will we do in the workshop? Using eagle eyes, magnifying glasses, and tweezers, we’ll find mosses, lichens, and other organisms, which we’ll identify using field guides or apps. Afterward, in the park lab under the linden tree pavilion, we’ll work together to create species labels using all kinds of materials.
