Woyzeck-Schafott 2024

In the organizer's words:
"DO NOT BE AFRAID" - VOICES OF RESISTANCE

200 years after the historical events surrounding the execution of Johann Christian Woyzeck in Leipzig, we are continuing to develop our artistic approach to the last public execution on the Leipzig market square, taking a look at the current situation of prisoners worldwide.

For the joint further development of our reconstruction of the Woyzeck Shafot, which was created as part of the Büchner Festival 2017, we were able to win over the scenographers Shahrzad Rahmani from Berlin and Lisa Schiller-Witzmann from Leipzig.

Using letters and reports from prisons under various systems of injustice from the past and present, they have succeeded in designing the 6x7x4 meter cube in the center of Leipzig as an impressive external and internal experiential space that gives victims of arbitrariness and injustice their own voice.

FromAugust 25 to September 4, the Woyzeck-Schafott 2024 will be present on Leipzig's market square.

Opening: Sun, August 25 | 6 pm
