Yadegar Asisi - 360°-Panorama: NEW YORK 9/11 - Krieg in Zeiten von Frieden

The 360° panorama "NEW YORK 9/11 - War in Times of Peace" can only be seen at Panometer Leipzig until March 3, 2024. On 32 x 110 meters, the artist Yadegar Asisi shows the lively everyday life in the New York district of Manhattan a few minutes before the attacks on the World Trade Center on 11 September 2001. The accompanying exhibition reveals the immense impact of the terrorist attacks in the decades that followed, especially in the Middle East.

Even years after the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, the events still have an impact on the present day. Rarely have the events of a single day had such serious repercussions. The Berlin artist Yadegar Asisi addresses this topic and illustrates the global consequences of the attacks over the last two decades in his 360° exhibition "NEW YORK 9/11 - War in Times of Peace".

The path through the exhibition initially leads chronologically through the past 22 years back to 11 September 2001. Five installations visualize the less visible consequences of the fateful day: the suffering caused in the war-torn countries in the Middle East, the immense consequential costs of the war on terror, the fates of refugees and contemporary witnesses, the nameless victims of torture and hostilities as well as persecution as a direct effect of 9/11. At the end of the chronology, the 32-metre-high panorama NEW YORK 9/11 shows the scene at the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11, 2001 at 08:41, five minutes before the attacks. With the knowledge of the subsequent tragedies, this starting point in the midst of the morning hustle and bustle in multicultural Manhattan becomes a seemingly utopian snapshot. This effect is underscored by various light simulations and thematically appropriate background music.

The exhibition can be visited individually or as part of a guided tour. Public guided tours take place daily at 11 am, 12 pm, 2 pm and 3 pm.
