Yoshie Shibahara - Zeitgrenzraummaschine

In the organizer's words:

In "Zeitgrenzraummaschine", the audience moves through a performative spatial installation in which time - captured in the frozen movement of white curtains - seems to stand still. What traces do incisive life events leave behind in us?

Together with the transdisciplinary artist and performer Echo Ho, the choreographer Yoshie Shibahara is developing a "performance machine" with TanzFaktur as a production partner, which travels the boundaries of a seemingly motionless torpor and the initially invisible space and time phenomena hidden within it. The project is inspired by the ancient Japanese concept of "Ōmagatoki", which describes the experience of dissolving boundaries in the transitional period between day and night, as well as during upheavals in life. Taking up Shinto concepts, Shibahara and Ho approach living space-time boundary shifts.

The project is the further development of a concept that was supported by a special fund grant from the Kunststiftung NRW on the theme of "Begrenzt - Entgrenzt: Time for a turning point?".

Yoshie Shibahara is a Cologne-based performance artist who works at the interface between choreographic and installation art. She is interested in creating conditions that sensitize perception, that lie beyond explanation and meaning and invite us to look behind things. Recently, she has increasingly devoted herself to optical performances and site-specific installations.

In her installations, compositions and performances,Echo Ho explores the transformative logic and poetic relationships between man, nature and the cosmos. Ho experiments with new artistic methods using time-based media and speculative fabulation from a philosophical and media-historical perspective to actively participate in today's world transformation process.

They deepen their collaborative way of working, which translates the intertwining of different art forms into innovative, experimental approaches to new aesthetic experiences.
