Every two years, theChristoph Martin Wieland Prize is awarded for an outstanding literary translation - this year it went to Tanja Handels for her translation of the novel "Betrug" by Zadie Smith (Kiepenheuer & Witsch). Based on one of the most sensational British court cases, this historical novel unfolds a nuanced panorama of Great Britain at the end of the 19th century. Tanja Handels' translation is, according to the Wieland jury, "extremely refined and nuanced. She gives the novel's diverse cast of characters each their own voice and linguistic register."

An evening about literary translation, British humor, historical accuracy and contemporary references - and about a very special author.
