Zum 40sten: Straßenfest mit Dominik Krause

On Saturday, August 15, Munich’s community will bring the Sub back to life. The Schwuhplattler are coming, there will be drag performances, and Dominik Krause will announce the famous “Rose Moment.” It all kicks off at 2 p.m.

The occasion for the annual birthday celebration couldn’t be better: Munich’s gay and queer center is turning 40 this year! The Sub has been celebrating all year long with various events, but the Hans-Sachs Street Festival offers yet another unique setting for this historic anniversary.

After all, this street festival is one of the most legendary queer events in the city. The Sub has been celebrating its birthday on Hans-Sachs-Straße since 1991. Now, part of Ickstattstraße is also included.

For its 40th birthday, guests will enjoy a very special program: Starting at 2 p.m.—following the opening remarks by Sub board members Markus Fischer, Jörn Vogt, and Marcel Wiesner—DJ Kosmix will take the stage. At 4 p.m., the Schwuhplattler will perform, followed by DJ DavX and various drag*artists: The lineup includes Danielle Slayowitz, Yvonne Bonbon, L’Onda DiMare, Agnetha Blossom, Same4Fame, Brini Olsen, Susi Sendling, Betty Pearl, and the reigning Blessed May Queen 2026, Miz Taylor. The drag segment will be hosted by the queens Kris Blaq and Tiffy Tölle.

The popular “Rose Moment” is scheduled for 8 p.m., when red (and white) roses will once again rain down from the balcony to the tune of Hildegard Knef’s famous song. Finally, DJ Sendling*Grammar will be behind the turntables until closing time at 10 p.m. And, of course, food and drinks will be available.

Dominik Krause will personally congratulate the Sub on its 40th anniversary and announce the “Rosenmoment.” “When he took office, our new mayor spoke out strongly in favor of a colorful and diverse Munich—of which the Sub, with its important offerings, is an integral part,” says our managing director, Kai Kundrath.

LGBTIQ* people are currently under a great deal of pressure, says Kai, referring to the rising anti-queer hostility in the state. The attack on the CSD in Berlin made this painfully clear.

“We are therefore particularly pleased that Dominik Krause is personally delivering his birthday wishes. It is essential to preserve Munich’s queer infrastructure with its diverse range of offerings. It contributes to social harmony in our city.”

As in previous years, free admission remains in place, but space is unfortunately limited. The area where the Hans-Sachs Street Festival takes place will therefore be cordoned off by ushers, who will also manage the flow of visitors. Visitors are advised to arrive as early as possible.
