Based on Stefan Zweig's "The World of Yesterday"
By Shay David and Alexander Marusch
What happens when past and present meet? "Zweig's Garden" brings this question to the ever greener foyer in the Rheinische. Inspired by Stefan Zweig's autobiographical work "The World of Yesterday", which tells of the splendour and disintegration of a world in upheaval, the production explores themes such as flight, political radicalization and the longing for a united world. The central theme of the story is viewed through the lens of the present day.
Against the backdrop of the 2026 State Garden Show in Neuss, which focuses on the transformation of park and landscape, old and new, "Zweig's Garden" shows a special link between past and present. As different artistic forms come together, the realization remains changeable in the direction of drama, performance, radio play or exhibition.
Each room opens up a new perspective, each approach a different view of the present. The world of yesterday meets the world of today - and perhaps also the world of tomorrow.
