The Abaton, one of the first art house cinemas in Germany, has stood for a sophisticated, regularly award-winning film program from all over the world since 1970. In addition to European feature films and documentaries, a selected children's program is shown daily at 3 p.m. - and always without commercials! English films are usually shown in the original version with German subtitles (OmU). The interested audience can also get into conversation with the filmmakers. Prominent guests like to come to the Abaton for a good 200 premieres and special screenings a year. These include German and international directing greats such as Fatih Akin, Andreas Dresen, Christian Petzold, Pedro Almodóvar, Mike Leigh and Wim Wenders, as well as actors like Burghart Klaußner and Martina Gedeck.
