The Bauhaus Museum Weimar owns the oldest Bauhaus collection in the world, created by Walter Gropius in 1925.

At the founding site of the Staatliches Bauhaus, the museum commemorates the early Weimar phase of the most important design and art school of the 20th century. As a place of encounter, openness and discussion, the museum offers contemporary perspectives on the ambivalent history of the impact of modernism from its beginnings to the present day. The Weimar Bauhaus history is linked to the social issues of shaping life today and tomorrow. The exhibition "The Bauhaus comes from Weimar" takes visitors through the eventful years of art, design, architecture and contemporary history of the Bauhaus and its roots in modernism around 1900.

The new building was opened in 2019 as part of the so-called "Quartier Weimarer Moderne" to mark the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus. The contemporary architecture offers more than 2,200 square meters of exhibition space for the presentation of the collection, which has now grown to 13,000 objects.
