Café Langer August

The Café des Langen August e.V. is a venue for a wide variety of cultural and social events, which are planned by various groups and organizations from Dortmund and the surrounding area.

Lange August" was named after the Dortmund resistance fighter Kurt Schmidt (1905-1938). As a member of the Dortmund KPD, he fled from the Gestapo to the Saar region and later on to France after the fascist takeover.

In 1937, he went to Spain to fight against the Franco fascists. On March 12, 1938, he was killed in action near Alcaniz. His friends called him "Long August". The name of the house is dedicated to him and to the memory of all resistance fighters.
