The CENTRAL cinema at Hackescher Markt has been in existence since 1996. It has established itself in Berlin as one of the city's most interesting art-house cinemas, which, in addition to a mostly good selection of first-run films, also repeatedly comes up with special cinematic features and program surprises. Due to its special integration into the "Haus Schwarzenberg", which was founded in 1995 by the Berlin art group "Dead Chickens", the cinema's environment is characterized by its artistic potential and its particularly historical background regarding Jewish culture in Berlin (Museum Blindenwerkstatt Otto Weidt, Anne Frank-Zentrum). The "Galerie Neurotitan" is meanwhile as well known citywide as the great bar "Eschschloraque Rümpschrümp". The Central-Kino sees itself as a part of this exciting and lively cultural network, which offers a real alternative to the licked tourism facade around the Hackesche Höfe. The very lively program variety of the Central-Kino can best be described by a selection of the festival activities and film series that make up the CENTRAL-Kino's program.
