The "Fabrique", built in 1903, is the heart of the Gängeviertel. Belts and buckles were once manufactured here. As part of the redevelopment measures, the listed building was converted into the socio-cultural center of the Gängeviertel and reopened in March 2016.
It will enrich Hamburg's Neustadt district with social, cultural and political offerings and be open to the city's population for workshops, seminars and events.
A second staircase and an elevator were installed for barrier-free access. Two units of between 100 and 130 square meters were created on each of the five floors of the building. Since the renovation of the Fabrique, they have been used by various groups as a photo studio, seminar room, radio station, rehearsal stage, movement room, open workshop for screen printing and art, cooking workshop, art space MOM and event space WOW for concerts and other formats. All spaces also allow for open art, cultural and educational offerings and can be rented for such - the rental prices of all spaces are staggered according to financial possibilities and target groups. The Fabrique thus stands for low-threshold access to cultural and political education, to art and culture - for a city for all. This versatile house is run by the Gängeviertel e.V. and many other initiatives and associations; the Fabrique is managed by the Gängeviertel Genossenschaft 2010 eG.
