At the Düsseldorf Film Museum in Carlstadt, you'll meet cinema legends like Charlie Chaplin, Federico Fellini, Alfred Hitchcock and Marlene Dietrich. The permanent collection on more than four floors not only offers an insight into the beginnings of cinematography, but also lets you experience the feeling of a director or film star in a replica film studio. Here you can pose between scenery, camera, wind machine and spotlight. It is also home to the program cinema Black Box, which shows film classics, thematic retrospectives and premiere screenings. The permanent exhibition here presents exhibits from various collections, including shadow puppets, film frames, costumes, props and technical apparatus from the 18th to 20th centuries. The Film Museum's film archive contains approximately 6,500 prints spanning more than 110 years, as well as a media library with some 22,000 titles.
