The Secret Gardens of Rolandswerthby Caroline Bittermann and Peter Duka are part of the Remagen Sculpture Promenade, a project of the Arp Museum and the City of Remagen. 

Bittermann & Duka—as they are known as an artist couple—base their work on the idea that landscape and nature are perceived as images. They also draw on this concept in their work *Secret Gardens of Rolandswerth *.

The writings of Novalis (1772–1801) form the theoretical starting point for the redesign of the 19th-century garden complex. The sentence fragment from his *Allgemeiner Brouillon* of 1798—“Perfect speculation leads back to nature”—is to be discovered, scattered and encoded on the gate, the tower, and the letter sculpture on the staircase facing the Rhine. Bats and wild bees are welcomed into the concrete plant tower designed by Bittermann & Duka. A documentation of the history of this historically significant site is housed in the old greenhouse.
