The Hansa Library is a place of information and communication for children, young people and adults in the Hansaviertel and was planned as one of the first open-access libraries in Berlin. The library was built as part of the International Building Exhibition IBA '57 according to plans by Berlin architect Werner Düttmann and is now part of the listed building ensemble of the Hansaviertel. Large windows with retractable panes allow a smooth transition from inside/library to outside/garden. The close connection between the library space and the garden has created a unique reading oasis that invites visitors to read and work in all seasons.
