The House of the Future

is a neighborhood center located in the north of Bremen. It is a meeting place in the district of Lüssum-Bockhorn. The work in the house is intended to strengthen the residents' personal responsibility and self-help activities.

In the Haus der Zukunft, municipal, social, church and sports organizations work together with committed citizens.

It is a social and cultural service and communication center.
The aim is to set positive accents in a district with some very serious social problems. The committed work not only has a positive effect on the neighborhood, but also benefits the Blumenthal district as a whole.

The house was built by the Haus der Zukunft e.V. association and was inaugurated in 1997; in 1998 it was awarded the Bund Deutscher Architekten prize. It was built as a low-energy house, making it a role model at the time.

Since 2002, the Haus der Zukunft e.V. association has operated a photovoltaic system on the roof of the house with an output of 2.4 KWp for 21 years in order to set an example for renewable energies. Since 2006, we have made the larger part of the roof available to BUND for a large system. It was renewed in 2023. The new PV system has an output of 14.82 KWp (39 modules with 380 Wp), an annual production of approx. 13,300 KWh and thus corresponds to the annual turnover of five households."
