The city park is best known for its archaic farm animal ark, a farm with old breeds of farm animals, whose petting enclosure is especially popular with children. Kids also get their money's worth at the many playgrounds, including a water playground, an eleven-meter-high climbing structure, at the squirt guns, in the cave maze, and at the trampolines.

For "friends of physical exercise" there is a long jump field, an ash track, a boules court, a basketball court, table tennis, miniature golf, a soccer field, a tennis court and, most recently, a beach volleyball court. Around 20 fitness machines from butterfly to running bars make Herzogenriedpark Mannheim's open-air fitness studio.
