The Institut français is made up of over 200 institutions worldwide that are committed to spreading the French language and culture at an international level and to the further development of intercultural exchange.
In Germany, the first Institut français was founded in Freiburg in 1949. Over the years, numerous other Instituts français and independent Centres franco-allemands (cultural centers) were added. Today, the Institut français d'Allemagne, together with its partner institutions, offers the broadest network of French cultural institutes in the world.

Founded in 1950, the Institut français Düsseldorf is one of the oldest of its kind in Germany and is located in the heart of Düsseldorf's old town in the Palais Wittgenstein, just a stone's throw from the Rhine. It offers French courses and official language certificates, as well as a rich cultural program and a large media library (with literature, comics, children's books and films).
