A dark room, lit only a little by red light, chemicals and enlargers and a few hours to ourselves. In addition to our shared love of photography and light painting, it is this room that connects us.

We are the Kalamari Klub.

Taking a step backwards in analog photography, away from image editing programs and the computer screen, towards a labor-intensive process, ultimately creates a special closeness to the work. It's not just the moment of releasing the shutter that is appealing, but also the hope that the film is correctly exposed; the wait until the moment of development and the concentration to do the right thing with every move. Always rewarded by the moment when the first contrasts appear on the photo paper floating in the developer bath.

We would like to share our fascination with these details with you.

The Kalamari Klub was founded in Heidelberg in early 2016 as a conglomerate of international artists and photographers. We believe in film, the art of darkroom work and experimental processes. Since September 2017, the Kalamari Klub has been running Heidelberg's only public darkroom. Our goal is to consolidate the status of analog photography through our work, our public relations work and our educational offers in the art and cultural scene of Heidelberg.
