Heinrich Heine expressed this impressively in his lyrical work "Book of Songs".

Robert Schumann's setting under the title "Dichterliebe" (Poet's Love) from 1840 comprises 16 songs that reflect his own inner turmoil between blissful rapture and love's awakening and bitter irony and despair.

Robert Schumann's contrasting tonal language underlines this inner conflict and expresses the longing for the ultimately unattainable.
It is a fine line between fulfillment and pain, between blossoming and fading, which both Heine and Schumann experienced.

A choral version of "Dichterliebe" will be performed under the direction of Markus Maczewski, presented by the Düsseldorf-Wersten choir and accompanied on the piano by Susanne Ankener-Maczewski.
