The Karlstorbahnhof cultural center was opened in 1995. The associations kulturcafé, Freier Theaterverein Heidelberg and Eine-Welt-Zentrum operate here under one roof. Medienforum Heidelberg e.V. also runs the Karlstorkino cinema in the same building. The Karlstorbahnhof stands for a diverse cultural program with creative concepts, exciting artists and plenty of openness and curiosity.

We have long since outgrown the station building in Heidelberg's Old Town, where Karlstorbahnhof was originally founded. In October 2022, we were able to inaugurate a modern, new event venue on Marlene-Dietrich-Platz in Heidelberg's Südstadt district. A large hall, the TiK theater space, a club, a cinema, two seminar rooms and the headquarters (which is a foyer, event space and café bar in one) offer plenty of space for creativity. This was made possible by the city of Heidelberg through the extensive conversion and new construction of a former military riding hall.

Karlstorbahnhof is a cultural center that stands for respectful coexistence and against all forms of discrimination. We want our venue to be an inclusive place where everyone feels accepted, represented and respected. By bike / on foot:

We have numerous bicycle parking spaces in front of the building. The cycle path runs along the back of the building, but there is a passageway at IM BOSSELDORN 18. The best way to reach us on foot is a short walk through the Campbell Barracks. There are plenty of car-free paths from Römerstraße.

By public transportation:

From the city center (Bismarckplatz/Universitätsplatz)

Bus 29 in the direction of Boxberg to the Marlene-Dietrich-Platz stop

Streetcars 23/24 to Markscheide stop (approx. 10 minutes on foot)

Night service

Line 29 departs daily at 00:09 for the last time from Bismarckplatz to us, the last return journey is at 00:50. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights and before public holidays, the Moonliner M3 runs to and from us twice an hour via Bismarckplatz and the main station. The Karlstorbahnhof offers a wide range of cultural events, including concerts of various musical genres, theater performances, comedy shows, exhibitions, readings and workshops.

Yes, the Zentrale is not only the center of the new Karlstorbahnhof, but also a cozy café-bar in the south. Here you can get the typical drinks for events, but also coffee, cake, delicious food and space for you and your ideas.

Before every evening event that takes place in our hall, there is an hour-long offer of small vegetarian dishes to go with all the drinks in the central area.

Every Friday from 12 noon there is a delicious lunch with a variety of dishes - while stocks last. Followed by coffee and cake. On Saturday and Sunday, the menu includes coffee specialties, cold drinks and even more of Clara's delicious home-baked cakes. We also prepare fresh soup for you every week on Mondays from 12:00 to 3:00 pm at a fair price.
