Kassengewölbe

Friedrich Schiller was buried in the night from May 11 to 12, 1805 in the vault of the treasury in Jakobskirchhof.

The supposed body was transferred to the Prince's crypt in 1827. However, later scientific investigations revealed that the remains in the Fürstengruft were those of other people. The coffin in the crypt is therefore empty today.

The current coffin vault is a reconstruction from 1927, which is based on the historical original and was built on the old foundation walls. Inside, there are stone plaques with the names of those buried here and a memorial plaque commemorating Schiller's burial.
