Mahnmal St. Nikolai

The St. Nikolai Memorial is a living place of remembrance and encounter in the heart of Hamburg.

It connects the present with the past and the future. The former main church of St. Nikolai was severely destroyed during the Allied bombing raids in the summer of 1943, known as "Operation Gomorrah". Today, St. Nikolai is a memorial against the war.

It commemorates the victims of the bombings in the context of the National Socialist war of extermination and offers the opportunity to explore the causes and consequences of the war in the museum in the historic vaulted cellar. The exhibition confronts visitors with the unspoken question: How do we want to live memory today?
