Founded in 1833, the MKV moved into a building specially erected by the city of Mannheim on the Augustaanlage in 1966. The striking building was designed by Darmstadt architect Theo Pabst. The building comprises an exhibition area of 450 square meters, a sculpture courtyard and the association's office.

Predominantly contemporary art of all genres and directions make up the exhibition program, in addition to exhibitions of established art and special events, such as our Kultur_Lesen series, tours in sign language, lectures and guided tours.

With currently about 700 members, the Mannheimer Kunstverein is the oldest cultural institution in Mannheim.

The MKV is supported by its members, the support of the city of Mannheim and the state of Baden-Württemberg, and private donations.
