The Riem municipal library is located in the new Messestadt Ost district, which was created at the end of the 1990s as part of the subsequent use of the old Munich commercial airport. In addition to apartments, kindergartens and elementary school, the new district includes a shopping center, commercial space with a diverse range of industries, the New Munich Trade Fair Center and the landscaped park with swimming lake created in 2005 for the Federal Garden Show.
A new neighborhood square at the Messestadt Ost subway station will be integrated into the district in the future. Here, south of Willy-Brandt-Allee, where many streets are named after famous literary figures, the writer Elisabeth Castonier (1894-1975) is now also being honored. The address of the city library is Elisabeth-Castonier-Platz 19.
It is a family library. The focus is on media and programs for children of all ages, for young people, for parents, teachers and educators.
