As a senate-funded venue for the Theater der Dinge, the SCHAUBUDE BERLIN has developed since its founding in 1993 into a central platform and meeting place for the genre with an international profile. The program unites different aesthetic signatures of contemporary puppet, figure and object theater and presents national and international guest performances in addition to those of Berlin theater artists, especially within the framework of the international figure and object theater festival "THEATER DER DINGE".

In cooperation with the Contemporary Puppetry program at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts, with the program focus "JUNGE SZENE" and with the international festival for young puppet theater "VERSUCHUNG", a focus is also placed on young artists. In addition to presenting approximately 300 performances per season in the children's and evening program and organizing festivals, the SCHAUBUDE BERLIN is committed to communicating artistic processes through educational theater programs and discursive formats. In addition, it initiates cross-genre encounters and dedicates itself to thematic focal points such as the "Dystopian Salon".
