Seebühne am Biedermeierstrand

Founded in 2007, the Hayna Beach Association has made it its mission to establish a unique cultural venue on the Hayna shore of Lake Schladitz, the site of the former Breitenfeld open-pit lignite mine. This led to the creation of the Seebühne am Biedermeierstrand. With nearly 1,000 seats, it is the largest covered lakeside stage in Germany. Since 2009, more than 30 events have taken place here every year during the season from May through September; with their diverse programming, these events offer something for everyone—from danceand theater performances by regional and national ensembles, to orchestra and band concerts of various genres, and even cabaret and magic shows. Past guests have included Nightwash, the Musikalische Komödie Leipzig, and Silly!

Events organized by the association itself, featuring a historical flair, round out the program. These present the Biedermeier era (1815–1848) in an entertaining way and demonstrate—for example, through a humorous historical fashion show—that life back then wasn’t all coziness and narrow-mindedness. In addition to the annual Biedermeier Beach Festival in July and the Harvest Festival in September, the beach association hosts a spooky Halloween festival in October—which showcases the darker side of the Biedermeier era—and an atmospheric Victorian Christmas market in December featuring handmade products from the region.
