Werdersee

Whether for joggers, walkers, swimmers or for numerous activities on the water - the Werdersee is always worth a visit. The central location, around 54.5 hectares of lake area and excellent water quality offer the best conditions for local recreation on and in the water.

When you get right down to it, the Werdersee is not a lake at all. Rather, it is a separated branch of the Weser, which is fed with water from the river via an intake and serves as a flood drainage system. Created between 1952 and 1958, the Werdersee is Bremen's first and largest recreational lake.

Sunbathing and water freshness

On beautiful summer days, Bremen residents like to loll around on the north-facing, coarse-grained sandy beach right next to the bathing bay. The cool water of Lake Werdersee provides welcome refreshment. Non-swimmers can also cool off carefree in a separate area, with DLRG staff always keeping an eye on the activity in and around the water. There are also jetties at the bathing bay where you can launch your sports equipment, such as stand-up paddle boards, into the water.
