WHAT ARE THE ARTS AND CRAFTS DAYS?

The European Days of Arts and Crafts - ETAK for short - are a long weekend in spring to watch and take part in and take place simultaneously every year at the beginning of April in 24 European countries. In Germany, many regions in 11 federal states showcase a wide variety of creative crafts - and this year is the tenth time! Artisans and creative people open their workshops, stores and studios and allow visitors of all ages to take a look behind the scenes. Museums, theaters, operas, universities, public institutions and many more also offer exhibitions, guided tours, workshops and other offers related to arts and crafts.

WHY ARTS AND CRAFTS?

Arts and crafts stand for sustainability and regionality. The program of these action days is as colourful and diverse as the industry itself: Every artisan, designer and creative person adds a distinctive touch to their own work.

The regional creative scene is colorful, which is also reflected in the variety of unique offers: Guided tours for young and old, workshop talks, online offers and creative workshops for children and adults introduce visitors to the world of creative design.

All activities are bundled here to provide an up-to-date overview of traditional, innovative and creative crafts as well as practical creative industries throughout Germany. Regional filters and the overview map below allow you to search for specific features and individual events and times.

Both active participation in the ETAK with a publication on this website and visiting the numerous events and open workshops as a guest are free of charge!

BACKGROUND

The aim of the ETAK is to bring the diverse and important arts and crafts/design sector closer to the general public and to strengthen it by raising awareness, attracting new customer groupsand creating networks. The initiative was launched in 2002 by the French Ministry of Crafts. In 2014, the Berlin Chamber of Crafts brought the ETAK to the German capital for the first time. Since then, the three-day event has become an integral part of creative and cultural life and has grown in popularity year after year: Throughout Germany, several hundred studios, workshops and exhibition venues open their doors for this three-day event to a growing number of visitors of all ages - in 11 federal states now. The local craft organizations look after and support the participants in the event.
