The CD edition, founded in 2000, has been continued since 2020 in collaboration with the BR-KLASSIK label. As a "series for composers", the CD edition documents musica viva concerts with the Bavarian Radio Choir and Symphony Orchestra as well as internationally renowned orchestras, ensembles and soloists.

The musica viva CD releases have been awarded numerous prizes, on the BR-KLASSIK label Rebecca Saunders (Best List of the German Record Critics' Award, Best Classical Tracks 2020 of the New York Times), Enno Poppe (Diapason d'or 9/2020), Mark Andre (Los Excepcionales 9/2021), Ondrej Adámek (Franco Abbiati Prize 9/2022, Coup de Cœur 12/2022), Klaus Ospald (Especialmente Recomendado & Sonido Extraordinario 10/2023), Helmut Lachenmann (Supersonic Pizzicato 04/2024) and Milica Djordjević (Abbiati Prize 9/2024, 5against4 Best Albums of 2024, Ritmo Especialmente Recomendado 01/2025).
