Sthira Sukha by Sabrina Insbrecht
In the page's words:
I was born in 1985 on the Lower Rhine. I got to know (Ashtanga) yoga in my early 20s. It's been with me for almost half my life - but nowhere near as intensively as it is today! If someone had told the party-loving past Sabrina a few years ago that she would one day live "straight edge" and practise yoga every day, she would have laughed out loud and had a drink first.
At first, I tried out various yoga styles and practiced more or less Āsanas - which I still equated with yoga at the time. For me, it was mainly sport at first. In 2016, I joined the Shaanti Ultra yoga school in the Ruhr region, where I found my yoga home. It was there that I first took a serious look at yoga teaching. Through the Mysore style taught there, I was able to develop my own practice and also practise it at home. Today I find concentration, peace and energy through yoga. In the rhythm of breath and movement, I am completely in the here and now. I am convinced of the benefits of the Mysore style.
At the beginning of the pandemic, I decided to make good use of this challenging time and deepen my knowledge of yoga. I trained as an Ashtanga and Yin yoga teacher at the Ashtanga Connection in Cologne. I feel completely at ease and well supported by my two experienced instructors.
Yoga gives me freedom, balance, enthusiasm, self-discipline and strength. It allows me to get up again after setbacks and grow from them - and yet it always brings me back down to earth. Through practicing, I learn to accept my daily form, to perceive my needs and to overcome resistance. What I practise on the mat - stamina, resilience, serenity - I can transfer well into life.
I would like to pass on this gift as a yoga teacher. I love accompanying people on their path and offering them a space in which they can meet themselves. My main job is as a social pedagogue and I have been working in a retirement home since 2011, where I look after the residents - many of whom live with dementia. I also run a (wheelchair) yoga group there. The two activities complement each other wonderfully: Both roles are about empowering people, giving them space and creating connections. In 2019, I completed my training as a senior yoga teacher.
