The 14th edition of the ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival will take place October 12-15, 2023 at the Haus für Poesie and Kino in der Kulturbrauerei.

The most beautiful, idiosyncratic, intense short films in the world are often based on poems: They are films of a very special genre in which the boundary between film and poetry is crossed, total works of art made of image, word and sound.

Every year, thousands of filmmakers from all over the world submit their poetry films to the international competition of the ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival. An international jury selects the winning films and awards three prizes on the Sunday of the festival at the cinema in the Kulturbrauerei. Accompanying the competition, around 60 films in four programs provide an insight into the current poetry film scene.

This year, the focus is on Italy as a country of film and poetry. Italian poetry films are the focus of a curated film program. In cooperation with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Berlino, finalists of the very important Premio Strega Poesia, awarded for the first time by the Fondazione Bellonci, will be guests. On the shortlist are Silvia Bre, Umberto Fiori, Vivian Lamarque, Stefano Simoncelli and Christian Sinicco. Who will win will be announced a few days before the ZEBRA Festival. He or she, as well as finalists will be on stage.

On a second evening, the Italian poets Maddalena Lotter and Italo Testa will read. In a masterclass, the Italian filmmaker and poet Milena Tipaldo will talk about the fascinating connection between poetry and animation.
