Artist Statement - Bolina Merten
In a world that is often pervaded by melancholy heaviness, the artist Bolina finds a way out in her art. Faced with a reality in which peace and love seem rare, she feels a deep desire to incorporate precisely these qualities into her work. For her, art is a means of creating a different reality: imbued with love, freedom, lightness and harmony.
But it is not only external circumstances that shape Bolina's work - everyday life also repeatedly poses questions about identity, belonging and one's place in the world. In her creative work, she processes what often remains unspoken and uses it to form images that are both personal and universal.
In her mostly abstract paintings with acrylic on canvas, she allows color and form to flow intuitively - a process that is both searching and finding.
A central element that appears in many of her works is the circular form. For Bolina
it symbolizes a source of inner energy - a powerful, protective center
that radiates calm, connectedness and continuity. In the midst of the often fragmented outside world, she uses the circle to create a form that represents wholeness.
