Bundesjugendorchester

The Bundesjugendorchester (BJO) is Germany's youngest top orchestra for up-and-coming
young musicians between the ages of 14 and 19 and is the sponsoring orchestra of the Berliner Philharmoniker. It was founded in 1969 by the German Music Council. Conductors such as Andris Nelsons, Ingo Metzmacher and Kirill Petrenko have already conducted here. Sir Simon Rattle has been Honorary Conductor since 2018. The young musicians qualify for membership of the National Youth Orchestra with an audition. During the work phases, they work on challenging compositions, including contemporary works and world premieres. Tours have taken the orchestra throughout Europe, to North and South America, Asia and Africa. The main sponsors of the
