Ensemble Garage

In the artist's words:

Founded in 2009 by Brigitta Muntendorf and Rodrigo Lopez Klingenfuß, Ensemble Garage seeks answers to artistic, social and aesthetic questions that characterize our time.

At the same time, it searches for means and methods with which compositional fields of expression can be created today.

Since its foundation, it has provided innovative artistic impulses by focusing on the reflection of the (post)-internet society with all its digital-media manifestations and playing a decisive role in shaping the development of new music towards transmedia, theatrical and performative forms of production.

An important part of Ensemble Garage's work is collaboration and exchange with other artists. For example, it has organized numerous exchange concerts with young composers from Germany, Poland, Finland, the USA, Turkey and France.

It also works regularly with guest curators and artists from other fields such as video (Warped Type and others) or dance (Mouvoir / Stephanie Thiersch and others). In doing so, the ensemble builds on the "Community of Practice", an artistic working method in which representatives from different fields enter into an exchange with each other and try out a collaborative practice, the end result of which can take the form of an artistic work.

Since fall 2019, Ensemble Garage has been presenting its own concert series (Acts 'n Sounds) several times a year at various venues in Cologne with very different themes, questions and concepts.

The ensemble regularly performs at renowned festivals in Germany and abroad, such as the Acht Brücken Festival Cologne, Eclat Stuttgart, the Ruhrtriennale, the Herrenhausen Art Festival, SPOR Festival Aarhus (Denmark), GAIDA Festival Vilnius (Lithuania), Warsaw Autumn, Musica Strasbourg and Mixtur Barcelona (Spain).
