Louise Aston and Mathilde Anneke, two revolutionaries, meet on a ship that takes them away from home. They have to flee because the revolution of 1848 has failed. They remember and dream of a better, freer future, for the long road to democracy has just begun.

2023 marks the 175th anniversary of the first all-German revolution. To mark this occasion, Altenbach + Honsel are embarking on a poetic search for the pioneers of German democracy in the roles of Louise Aston and Mathilde Anneke. They tell and sing about fates, the everyday and the extraordinary, and create a vivid picture of the events and their consequences. Not a history lesson, but an experienced past!
