1984 – Dystopie 2.0

In the near future, the state of Oceania is no longer ruled by humans, but by a highly developed artificial intelligence called Solon. Everything appears edgeless, smooth and perfectly designed - but behind the flawless surface lies a system that controls every area of life. The powerful, patriarchal AI Solon decides on work, leisure time, relationships and information, and even whether and how families may be formed. Truth is just a number in the system. Surveillance is omnipresent - more comprehensive and sophisticated than even George Orwell could ever have imagined.

In this world lives Winston, one of the last human programmers still working directly with the system. After a serious cyberattack on Oceania by the hostile Eurasia, Winston comes across something that doesn't fit into Solon's perfect order. This discovery causes him to question everything he has ever believed in. His seemingly stable world view begins to crumble.

Kim Langner's modern reinterpretation of George Orwell's famous dystopia "1984" tells of a world of digital surveillance with humor, exaggeration and sometimes grotesque images - and shows how dangerous it becomes when technology no longer serves people, but people serve technology. Director Katharina Birch, who has already realized productions for young audiences at many renowned theaters, brings the world premiere of this new interpretation for everyone aged 12 and over to the Central stage.
