THOMASTROTTER Organ
Thomas Trotter and the Eule organ: they are good old acquaintances. For when the new concert organ was inaugurated with a festive concert on November 14, 2009, the English organist was one of the soloists who took their place at the four manuals and 72 typically English stops. Since 1983 Thomas Trotter has been organist of Birmingham Town Hall, at one of the mighty English Town Hall organs. And it was in this same style that Hermann Eule built the late Romantic concert organ with its rich, voluminous and versatile sound, which found its home in the Philharmonie Mercatorhalle. With the "Fantasy in G Major" by Johann Sebastian Bach, which is one of the most famous organ pieces by the Baroque master, Thomas Trotter opens his recital, by the way, with a work that was already on the program for the instrument at the opening concert. He also demonstrates the tonal versatility of the Eule organ with modern compositions by György Ligeti, who would have turned 100 in 2023, and virtuoso concert pieces, some of which are his own arrangements.
