223. Jour Fixe der Stiftung ex oriente
In the organizer's words:
Supporting Children in Crisis Areas in the East
An evening with children, teachers, and volunteers, hosted by Jakob and Johanna Pöllath
July 10, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. at the Confucius Institute Munich or via Zoom and YouTube livestream.
For more than two decades, the ex oriente Foundation, together with numerous partner organizations, has been supporting educational and aid projects in crisis-stricken and structurally weak regions—from Vietnam and Korea to Myanmar and Afghanistan, and as far as Ukraine and Lebanon. These initiatives focus on children and schools, as well as the question of how education can create prospects for the future even under difficult conditions.
The 223rd Jour Fixe evening offers personal insights into this long-standing work: children, teachers, and aid workers share firsthand accounts of their daily lives, including experiences of displacement, school, and humanitarian aid, as well as specific experiences from projects in Korea, Ukraine, Syria, Lebanon, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Vietnam, and other regions. The focus is not only on crises and challenges, but also on encounters, mutual support, and the importance of long-term educational support.
Korean refugee children, who will visit Germany again in 2026 to receive an award for their academic achievements, will also be guests along with their teachers and will share their experiences. The evening aims to create space for exchange, provide insights into the project work, and thank all supporters for their long-standing commitment.
