A small coastal town in New Zealand. Jim, 17 years old, is a boxing talent, the next victory could turn him into a professional. His father (Hollywood star Tim Roth) trains him and has high hopes for him - but after his encounter with Whetu, an openly gay Māori, Jim suddenly finds things that are really worth fighting for.
Two young men who have to stand up to the homophobia that is still very much present in New Zealand: Director Welby Ings develops a tender love story from a father-son story in a rough boxing environment, in which Jim not only broadens his sexual perspectives with Whetu, but also his ideas of what a good life is.
