4. Jugendkonzert mit Dirigentin Marie Jacquot
In the organizer's words:
Since when have there been female composers? Since the beginning of time! But in a male-dominated music world, it was long extremely difficult for women to be heard—and remembered. Many female composers fell into obscurity. Marie Jacquot and Malte Arkona aim to change that with this program. Amy Beach made music history in Boston in 1896: With her “Gaelic Symphony,” she became the first American female composer to premiere a symphony. In it, she wove Old English, Scottish, and Irish melodies into a magnificent symphonic landscape. Amy Beach was also a celebrated pianist and performed Frédéric Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto herself with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Today, Yulianna Avdeeva takes on this role: with a delicate touch, she brings out the soft tones and profound emotions of this poetic work. A concert that demonstrates: music history is broader, more diverse—and more exciting—than one might think.
