Gustav Mahler, “Kindertotenlieder”
Antonín DvořákSymphony No. 6 in D Major, Op. 60
Soloist: Marie Seidler (mezzo-soprano)
Conductor: Christopher Lichtenstein
An evening full of orchestral colors and profound emotion: Paul Hindemith’s Concerto for Orchestra is a work of astonishing clarity, humorous wit, and sophisticated sonic architecture. This is followed by Gustav Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder, a deeply moving song cycle based on poems by Friedrich Rückert. Mezzo-soprano Marie Seidler lends these poignant songs a special poignancy with her warm timbre and great emotional depth. The program culminates in Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 6, in which young musicians from the Lower Saxony Youth Symphony Orchestra, together with the Osnabrück Symphony Orchestra, bring the work’s spirited sonic splendor to life.
