For 25 years, the Munich collective EXPRESS BRASS BAND has been celebrating an unmistakable brass band style in the spirit of the Sun Ra Arkestra or the Art Ensemble of Chicago, deeply rooted in jazz, soul and Afrobeat with influences of oriental music from the Maghreb to Afghanistan.
"The sound of the Express Brass Band is not just about freedom. It is almost a synonym for this freedom. A freedom, incidentally, that is not free from something, but free for something."
(Dirk Wagner)
Today we welcome The Ukelites and are already looking forward to what the quartet led by ukulele-playing singer Miriam Hein will bring to the table. It's not just the choice of songs, but also the instrumentation of this band that is unusual - in addition to the ukulele, they also play ukulele bass, baritone saxophone and a Hawaiian steel guitar, supported by wild brushes on the drums.
Musically, we can expect classics from jazz and the Great American Songbook, 60s soul and rhythm'n'blues through to country, Hawaiian classics or surprises from the pop world.
They will certainly also present pieces from their 2022 studio album "Jungle Swing".
Of course, always performed with the special charm of this Munich combo.

Steffen Günter: Ukulele, Steel Guitar, Saxophone
Wompl Wall: Ukulele-Bass
