To find something new and unheard of in a tearjerker like "Guantanamera" is quite something. The 2015 Grammy nomination for Best Instrumental Arrangement catapulted Cuban jazz pianist Alfredo Rodriguez into the limelight.
It became too crowded for him on the sugar island, so the path to the USA was only logical for the then 20-year-old pianist Alfredo Rodriguez. Collaborations with famous colleagues such as Wayne Shorter, Richard Bona or Lionel Loueke sharpened his own profile and gave Rodriguez an unbiased view of the rich musical heritage of his Caribbean homeland. Hardly any other piano trio succeeds in portraying the essence of Cuban music more effectively than the Alfredo Rodriguez Trio.
