The author duo Matter*Verse has written a play for director Fritzi Wartenberg about a dazzling real-life historical figure: born Catharina Linck in Thuringia in 1687, Linck decides at the age of 15 to break out of an externally determined life in an orphanage and adopt a new identity.
From then on, Catharina lives a life as a man - as Anastasius Rosenstengel - is drafted into the army, is soon considered a womanizer, deserts, is sentenced to death, manages to escape, marries the young Catharina Mühlhahn and is sentenced to death by a court for the second time. Anastasius Rosenstengel was the last person in Europe to be executed for fornication with another woman in 1721.
