Allen Ginsberg Abend zum 100. Geburtstag

An evening as part of "Experiment Democracy", the events organized by the City of Dortmund and Tu Dortmund to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, presented by students from the Faculty of Cultural Studies.

The Literaturhaus Dortmund is taking the centenary of Allen Ginsberg's birth as the occasion for a special evening that not only looks back, but also makes it clear why his voice can still be heard today.

With texts, sound, music and film, the atmosphere of the late 50s and early 60s is evoked, the time of the protest movements in the USA that gave rise to the new "beat literature". Ginsberg's "Howl" is one of the most prominent poems of this period. His texts have lost neither intensity nor attitude since then. Ginsberg is more relevant today than ever.

Allen Ginsberg is one of the great poets of the United States to have written about our region. As part of the Ginsberg anniversary, we are also presenting his poem "Ruhr Area" from 1979.
