Alles über … Depressionen

Noch niemand hat sich das Event gemerkt.

In the organizer's words:

  • Lecture in cooperation with the Chair of Clinical Psychology and Behavioral Neuroscience at TU Dresden

Depression is more than just a low mood, it is an illness that has a profound effect on how we think, feel and act. It can affect anyone, even if the symptoms differ from person to person and according to age and gender, and vary in severity. People can rarely free themselves from the illness without help. Depression tends to run in families, which is why looking at family relationships is particularly important for developing preventative and treatment approaches. This lecture explains how depression develops, what forms it takes and why early treatment is so crucial. Current treatment approaches and support options will also be presented.

Guest speaker:

Prof. Dr. Katharina Förster, Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy at the University of Hamburg
Her department conducts research into affective disorders, in particular depression and bipolar disorders, and runs a family outpatient clinic for affective disorders.

About the lecture series:
All about... Anxiety, depression, ADHD in adulthood and schizophrenia
A lecture series in cooperation with the Chair of Clinical Psychology and Behavioral Neuroscience at TU Dresden

Anxiety disorders, depression and ADHD are not only among the most common mental illnesses in Germany, they also sometimes occur together. More than half of mental illnesses begin in childhood, but the symptoms in children, adolescents and adults differ significantly. One consequence of this is that depression, for example, is rarely diagnosed in childhood and often only at a late stage, while conversely many cases of ADHD remain undetected in adulthood because it was long considered a "childhood illness". In addition, around 70 percent of adults with ADHD also suffer from other mental illnesses - most frequently anxiety disorders and depression.
The fourth event focuses on the mental illness of schizophrenia. Although it occurs comparatively rarely, it is of great importance due to its impact on sufferers, relatives and social participation.
In four one-hour events, experts will provide a well-founded insight into the latest findings on the causes, symptoms and treatment options and successes of these four illnesses.
