Andris Nelsons dirigiert Mahler und Schostakowitsch
In the organizer's words:
What shapes an artist’s personality? The people closest to them—that is what the Estonian composer Jüri Reinvere is convinced of. That is why, in his *Notturno*, he focuses not on Mozart but on his sister Maria Anna: a woman full of confidence, even though she has been relegated to the sidelines of music history. In Gustav Mahler’s life, his wife Alma played an essential role. In his final symphonic composition—the Adagio from his unfinished Tenth Symphony—he reflects not only on his farewell to life but also on the loss of Alma’s love. With numerous quotations, including some from Mahler’s Fifth Symphony, Dmitri Shostakovich looks back on his life in his final symphony—a musical final monologue.
